Cultural performance — Maroon music and dance
When it gets dark the drums come out. Maroon music is built on rhythm and on the dancers who answer it: the Awasa is fast and grounded, the Banamba restrained and graceful. Watch for a while and it becomes clear this was not designed for visitors. It is a form that has been passed down for generations.
Halfway through you will be invited to join in. It will go clumsily, and that is part of it.
