Danpaati River Lodge — 3-day all-inclusive
Three days on an island in the Upper Suriname River, with nothing but water and rainforest around you. You travel by bus from Paramaribo to Atjoni, then continue upstream by korjaal, the dugout canoe that is still the only way in. That transfer is the moment the interior really begins.
At Danpaati you sleep in a wooden cabin facing either the river or the garden. The programme fills itself: a walk through a nearby Maroon village, a hike into the forest, a boat trip as the sun drops, and an evening of drums and dance. In between, nothing is required. Swim from the sandbank, lie in a hammock, watch the water go past.
All meals are included, along with the excursions and the return transport.
