Tapawatra rapids and Pineapple Mountain — day trip

A day upstream, further into the rainforest. The korjaal takes you to Tapawatra, one of the best known sulas of the Upper Suriname. A sula is a set of rapids: the water breaks over black boulders and forms calm pools in between where you can safely swim.

After the water comes the climb. The path to the top of Pineapple Mountain runs through dense forest and is short but steep. At the top you look out over a carpet of treetops that runs to the horizon, with the river as its only interruption.
